Government is supposed to work for us, not against us

Sitting in the mayor and council chambers in City Hall as the mayor bangs the gavel, rising to say the Pledge of Allegiance, staring at the city seal perched on the wall high above seated council members, thinking about all the important business that has been transacted in the hallowed government hall — how could anyone not feel patriotic?
